The Provenzanoi Group of Hermit Crabs (Crustacea, Decapoda, Paguridae) in the Western Atlantic
Part IV. A Review of the Group, with Notes on Variations and Abnormalities
Abstract:Studies of shallow water pagurids of the area have revealed that 12 species in the western Atlantic, Caribbean, and/or Gulf of Mexico are assignable to the Provenzanoi group of Pagurus. Intraspecific variations and interspecific similarities among the species, as well as the systematics of the group, are discussed. Diagnoses of the 12 species and illustrations of the poorer known are given, together with a key to aid in their identifications.
