Studies of shallow water pagurids of the area have revealed that 12 species in the western Atlantic, Caribbean, and/or Gulf of Mexico are assignable to the Provenzanoi group of Pagurus. Intraspecific variations and interspecific similarities among the species, as well as the systematics of the group, are discussed.
