Abstract:

The development of Lutjanus griseus is described based on a small collection of larvae and juveniles that was preserved during a laboratory-rearing experiment. The larvae were very similar in appearance to other described snappers. Pigmentation was sparse in the larvae being confined to the ventral midline of the tail, gut, pelvic fin rays, cleithral symphysis, brain and on the base of the dorsal fin. Juveniles were heavily pigmented. Osteological development is described base on four cleared and stained specimens.
