Free Content Contribution to the Biology of Diapterus Rhombeus (Cuvier) (Pisces-Gerridae), South of Margarita Island, Venezuela

A total of 2,164 specimens of Diapterus rhombeus were sampled with four different fishing gears from April 1972 to March 1973. The length-weight relationship for both sexes combined with Wt = 1.7655 + 10−5 (SL)3.1612, where Wt is the weight in grams and SL the standard length in mm. D. rhombeus spawned throughout the year with two spawning peaks. One was between April and June and a second was between September and November. The size at first maturity was 115 mm for males and 125 mm for females. The von Bertalanffy growth equation estimated for the species was SL = 204 [1 − e−0.666(t − 0.0033)].
