Calanoid Copepods of the Genera Gaetanus and Gaidius from the Gulf of Mexico
Abstract:The union of the genus Gaidius Giesbrecht with Gaetanus Giesbrecht is proposed here, with a brief review of all the species so far described for the genera. On the basis of specimens collected from the Gulf of Mexico, ten species of Gaetanus are described and illustrated, including G. armiger Giesbrecht, G. brachyurus Sars, G. brevicornis Esterly, and G. minutus (Sars) that have not been recorded from the area. The males of G. armiger, G. brachyurus, G. latifrons, G. miles, G. minor and G. minutus are described here for the first time. A key to the species of Gaetanus from the Gulf of Mexico is given.
