Abundance and Distribution of Shallow-Water Gorgonians in the Area of Miami, Florida
The composition of the gorgon ian fauna at three shallow-water survey sites near Miami, Florida, is examined. Collections totaling 2550 specimens are analyzed as to number of species, number of colonies of each species, relative abundance of various taxonomic groups, and average height and weight of each species. Species are categorized according to patterns of distribution revealed by the study, and the ecological factors limiting the distribution of species are examined.
