Abstract:
Taeniacanthus lagocephali Pearse from Lagocephalus laevigatus (Linnaeus), and Taeniacanthodes gracilis Wilson from Paralichthys sp., are redescribed on the basis of the type-specimens in the collection of the U. S. National Museum. Taeniacanthus sabafugu Yamaguti & Yamasu is synonymized with T. lagocephali, and Taeniacanthodes gunteri Causey is suggested as probably conspecific with T. gracilis. Scolecicara humesi, a new genus and species, is described from three female specimens taken from the gill filaments of Porichthys porosissimus (Cuvier & Valenciennes). The genus lrodes Wilson should be abandoned and its species transferred to other taeniacanthid genera.Document Type: Research article
