abstract = "A brief survey of the sand fauna of some beaches in Miami, Florida, is reported. A simple method for collecting samples with a hand corer which provides quantitative samples from exactly known levels of the beach is described. The beach at the Institute of Marine Science of the
University of Miami on Virginia Key is described in detail and the irregular occurrence of concentrations of copepods, an archiannelid (Protodrilus sp.) and some turbellarians is discussed. No general conclusions as to the ecological factors involved in these concentrations are reached,
but the effects of rain, erosion and deposition of sand, and the presence of dead animal tissues are considered. Samples taken at low tide level on several beaches on Virginia Key and Key Biscayne show a fauna comparable to that on the beach at the Institute of Marine Science. The common
occurrence of an association of scavenger monocelids with some accompanying kalyptorhynchs is noted. The interesting distribution of a red turbellarian which occurred only at the outer end of barriers on the beaches is discussed.",
