A new species of Lepophidium (Pisces: Ophidiidae) is described from the South American coast off the Guianas. A single specimen of the species, from Campeche Bay, Mexico, differs somewhat from the South American population. Adults of Lepophidium jeannae Fowler are described for the first time. The new species is closely allied to L. jeannae and differences between the two are discussed.
