Spotted and Brown Shrimp Postlarvae (Penaeus) in North Carolina
Diagnostic characters for the postlarvae of Penaeus setiferus and P. braziliensis (as understood prior to 1939) are reviewed. Differentiating characters for P. duorarum and P. aztecus postlarvae are given. The determinations, based on plankton tows, include body size, rostral proportions, relative length of the third pereiopod and shape of the antennal scale. The determinations are confirmed by rearing experiments.
