A Contribution, to the Life History of the Squirrel Fish Holocentrus Vexillarius Poey
Abstract:The early development of Holocentrus vexillarius Poey, 1860 is described from 97 larval, juvenile, and adult specimens ranging from 1.8 to 107.7 mm standard length, from the Gulf of Mexico, the Florida Current, the Western Atlantic, Florida, and the Bahamas. Thirteen specimens representing a size sequence are illustrated. Changes during development, geographical distribution, vertical distribution, spawning, food, and general biology are discussed.
