Free Content Note on Correcting G. E. K. Observations of Florida Current off Miami for Tidal Current

Abstract:

A likely orientation of the tidal wave crest across the Florida Straits from Miami Beach to Cat Cay is suggested. Comparison of estimated and observed magnitudes indicates that the large transverse component observed in the Straits cannot be accounted for by tidal current. The tidal transport is shown to be about 2.3 million cubic meters per second. An approximate method is suggested for the correction of north component of observed current for tidal current.
