A Method for Rendering Wood Resistant to Marine Borers
The in situ precipitation of toxic materials in wood by double impregnation appears to have been inadequately tested as a borer-proofing method. A simple and economical method for borer-proofing wood by successive impregnations with copper sulfate and sodium hydroxide is described. This method has afforded complete protection to panels of pine and fir for more than two years. It appears to protect equally well against both shipworm and gribble.
