Optimizing the Dynamic Behavior of Direct Controls of Voltage-source Converters

The switching table version of direct controls is investigated. If the reference values of the controlled (target) quantities change fast and frequently, the dynamic behavior of the control must be examined. The usual switching tables must be investigated and revised in this respect. The possible modifications are using more effective voltage vectors, increasing the number of sectors, and selecting proper sector orientation. This article analyzes, compares, and optimizes the dynamic behavior of the different versions. Effective quantitative measures are introduced for this purpose, supporting the optimal selection. For comparison, the switching numbers are also investigated. The dynamic behavior is also affected by the DC voltage level, and its effect and demanded values are examined and compared as well. The results are generalized for all direct controls.
