On the altitude dependence of the temperature scaling behaviour at the global troposphere
Detrended fluctuation analysis is applied to the mean monthly temperature values, over different heights of the global troposphere, during 1980-2004, to search for self-similarity properties. The results show that the tropospheric temperature anomalies obey persistent long-range power-law
correlations for time-scales longer than about four months and shorter than about six years. This suggests that the temperature fluctuations over small time periods (i.e. a few months) are related to those over longer time periods (i.e. a few years). In addition, the long-range power-law persistence
in the global tropospheric temperature fluctuations becomes stronger as the altitude increases.
