Abstract:This paper proposes a new fusion method that permits an adequate selection of information extracted from source images to obtain fused images with good spatial and spectral quality simultaneously. This method is based on a joint multiresolution multidirectional representation of the source images using a single directional spatial frequency low pass filter bank of low computational complexity, defined in the Fourier domain. The source images correspond to those captured by the IKONOS satellite (panchromatic and multispectral). The results obtained indicate that the proposed method provides, in a simple manner, objective control over the trade-off between high spatial and spectral quality of the fused images.
