The use of two-enthalpy feed, which involves splitting the feed, condensing part of it, and sending both the liquid and vapor streams to the distillation column, is explored for columns that have a vapor feed and require refrigeration in the column condenser. The use of two-enthalpy feed can reduce both capital and operating costs compared to condensing all the feed. Compared to use of partial cooling and use of a two-phase feed, two-enthalpy feed reduces the condenser heat duty, but the feed cooling occurs at a lower temperature.
