Abstract:
Alcohols and phenols are protected with hexamethyldisilazane in the presence of anhydrous ferric chloride in good to excellent yields in acetonitrile. This method is highly selective for the conversion of primary alcohols in the presence of secondary and tertiary alcohols and also for conversion phenols. Keywords: Alcohol; ferric chloride; hexamethyldisilazane HMDS; phenol; trimethylsilylether
