Reviewing Social Democratic Corporatism: Differentiation Theory and the Norwegian Labor Press
Abstract:The article responds to Hallin and Mancini's (2004) request for studies to follow up their comparison of media systems. They argue for structural-functionalist differentiation theory, and the article reviews the Norwegian Labor Press from that perspective. It also demonstrates the necessity of employing all of structural-functionalism when studying party press parallelism. By doing so, the Norwegian study leads to other conclusions concerning commercialization and autonomy, parallelism and political change, professionalization and instrumentalization, and power.
