Crafting New Communicative Models in the Televisual Sphere: Political Interviews on The Daily Show
Abstract:Jon Stewart's interviews on The Daily Show (TDS) surprisingly have become an important node in the national political conversation. Often providing a series of insightful conversations with politicians, journalists, authors, and intellectuals, they represent a hybrid mode of political discourse enabled by the new media environment. This study explores the ways in which they rework the rules of news and celebrity interviewing to produce a novel form of televisual interaction that blends postmodern stylistics with a modernist ethos of rational-critical dialogue.
