Graphene-like Structures Containing Pentagonal Carbon-rings: Theoretical and Practical Perspectives
The paper presents a theoretical consideration of nanocones, a recently discovered allotropic form of carbon, graphene-like, structured and built of a pentagonal sp2-carbon-ring C5 fused with 5 benzene rings C6 which, in their turn, are fused with 10
ones and so on. Its topology is conically shaped and π-system exhibits heterogeneous p-electron distribution due to non-alternant configuration of the molecule. It is shown that these nanoconical structures could be used as molecular blocks to prepare superlight solid-state substances with
low densities of 0.01 g·cm−3 and less.
