Abstract:

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder resulting in hyperglycemia as a consequence of an abnormality of insulin secretion, insulin activity, or both. Diabetes can be divided into type I (absolute absence of insulin secretion, usually occurring at a younger age <20), type II (resistance to insulin and abnormal insulin response, usually occurring after the age of 40, which is most common type, accounting for >90% of cases), gestation type (first seen during pregnancy) and other (e.g., genetic, pancreatic, drug induced, infections).
