Sir Patrick Moore was born in 1923 and died in December 2012, aged 89. He had inspired young people with his enthusiasm for astronomy for more than 50 years. As presenter of "The Sky at Night" since 1957, he became a familiar face to all amateur astronomers and was a well-known broadcaster on all matters astronomical. A prolific author, he contributed the following article in a book entitled Zeitgeist for Science Reviews back in 1997. Zeitgeist was published to coincide with the 9th Edinburgh International Science Festival and was supported by the Post Office. We are republishing "Aliens from space?" as a tribute to the extraordinary achievements of Sir Patrick Moore, which have been recognised by Astronomical Societies from all around the world.
