Abstract:
This article examines the tenets of Human Performance Technology (HPT) in light of how technical communicators apply its principles. It traces how technical communication has evolved from a content focus to a user focus and how that shift has brought its methods in line with those of the field of HPT. This article outlines the methodology of HPT and shows how technical communicators can use it to help guide their own user-centered approaches, framing the methodology in the form of seven driving questions.Document Type: Research article
