Abstract:

Color is increasingly available, yet it is often seen as a daunting and strange material whose only purpose is to make pages pretty. It can indeed be decorative, but superficial cosmetic gloss has no place in technical documentation. Color must be used to make the information clear, lucid, powerful—faster. As such, color is not an artistic but an editorial material, whose logical application can (must) be controlled by the editor. This comprehensive checklist will help editors use color effectively.
