Abstract:Since becoming editor of Technical communication in 1996, I’ve used this column to express my views on a variety of topics that I think are important to our field. This editorial is different because I’m writing about my life as well as my ideas about the profession. As you can see from my contact information on the masthead page of this issue, after 18 years in industry, I have recently started a new job on the faculty of Mercer University.
