Chilling-related browning of rambutan

Abstract:
Purpose of review: This review covers the relationship between chilling injury in rambutan, cell wall metabolism and physiologically active substances such as ethylene, abscisic acid and polyamines. Findings and directions for future research: Plants showed a tolerant reaction when they encountered environmental stresses, and some physiologically active substances are related to these responses in plants. In addition, environmental stresses induce the production of reactive oxygen species, which are caused by cell membrane damage. Application of some kinds of physiologically active substances has been shown to reduce chilling injury in tropical fruits. These substances may also be associated with chilling tolerance in rambutan and can potentially be used in future to retard chilling injury.Keywords: CHILLING INJURY; RAMBUTAN; BROWNING
