A recent workshop on channel design and vessel maneuverability brought together channel designers, naval architects, pilots, and ship operators to review and share design approaches and standards that affect safety of operations. The desire was to develop policy recommendations that
can be implemented both in the way channels are laid out and enlarged and how ships of various types using them should be designed and handled. Resulting recommendations based on the discussions promise to improve overall safety of ship operations in restricted waterways.
