Abstract:
11B magic angle spinning solid state NMR spectra of polycrystalline lithium diborate are presented. Second order quadrupolar broadened resonances corresponding to three- (B3) and four-coordinated (B4) boron nuclei overlap for a magnetic field of 7·05 T, but are resolved for 14·1 T. Cross peaks linking the B3 and B4 resonances are observed in two-dimensional homonuclear spin diffusion spectra. There is a need to develop analytical methods for the characterisation of medium range structure in borate glasses. In this respect, such solid state NMR methods have potential for identifying the presence of specific superstructural units.Document Type: Research article
