Abstract:

A new two parameter empirical equation describing the temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity of glass forming melts is proposed: logrho=A+B/(logT–2·65), where rho is the specific electrical resistivity, T is the absolute temperature, and A and B are empirical parameters that depend on the chemical composition. The equation enables a rather accurate extrapolation of the experimental temperature dependencies of the electrical resistivity from 1073–1273 K up to 1673 K, where it is rather difficult to measure this property, with the standard error in the extrapolated logarithmic resistivity values ranging from 0·02–0·085. For most common soda–lime–silica glasses, a single parameter equation is also proposed for estimates in the temperature range 1073–1673 K with standard error in the extrapolated logarithmic resistivity values of not more than 0·07.
