Spontaneous Raman scattering measurements were undertaken on silica bulk samples doped with germanium, fluorine and phosphorous. We show that, using the presented data, one can predict the Raman gain relative to silica, in the spectral range from 200–1500 cm−1 for all standard silica based glass fibres with binary compositions in the ranges <30 mol% GeO2, <9 mol% P2O5 and <6 mol% F.
