Abstract:

In Corsica, Buxbaumia viridis occurs at the mountain stage in the massifs of the centre of the island. The forests of Rospa Sorba (Vezzani), Punta Niella (Bastelica) and Coscione (Cozzano) are to be added to the previously known localities of Aitone, La Flasca and Vizzavona. Buxbaumia viridis is found on logs or stumps, mainly of fir, in dense forests of Fagus sylvatica and/or Abies alba in humid situations. A new community with Buxbaumia viridis and Herzogiella seligeri (Nowellion curvifoliae), characteristic of soft decayed wood with a high water content and an acid pH, is described. Cephaloziella rubella, Plagiothecium curvifolium and Scapania umbrosa which thrive in similar habitats are new for Corsica.
