Identification of geodisasters in the state of Yucatán, Mexico

The objective of this project is to study the elements, of the natural environment that determine the existence of high risk areas in the state of Yucatán, Mexico. The analyses of topographic information necessitate restricting the threats to those which depend on the surface, such as inundation, karst, landslide and debris flow. The landscape was mapped geomorphologically in order to identify relief, describe geomorphologic processes, and characterize the type of risk to finally detect the areas most susceptible to and with the highest frequency of natural hazards.

El objetivo de esta investigación es estudiar los elementos del ambiente natural que determinan la existencia de las áreas de alto riesgo en el estado de Yucatán, México. Los análisis de la información topográfica resaltan aquellas amenazas que dependen del relieve, tales como inundación, hundimientos, y deslizamiento. A través de mapas geomorfológicos se identifican las unidades del relieve, se describen procesos y se identifica el tipo de riesgo con la finalidad de detectar las áreas susceptibles y con la frecuencia alta de peligros naturales.
