Atmospheric vertical dispersion in moderate winds with eddy diffusivities as power law functions

The vertical diffusion of a passive tracer released from a source in an unstable stratified boundary layer is studied by comparing an analytical model and experiments. The analytical solution is obtained by assuming power-law profiles for the mean velocity and vertical eddy diffusivity coefficients in the advection-diffusion equation. The analytical solution obtained leads to a non-Gaussian distribution for the vertical distribution of the concentrations at the plume centerline. The analytical model is compared with data collected from nine experiments conducted at Inshas, Cairo (Egypt). The model shows a good agreement between observed and calculated concentrations.

Die vertikale Diffusion eines inerten Spurenstoffs, der aus einer Quelle in eine instabil geschichtete atmosphärische Grenzschicht freigesetzt wird, wird mit einem analytischen Modell und Feldversuchen untersucht. Die erhaltene analytische Lösung für die Ausbreitungsgleichung basiert auf der Annahme, dass die vertikalen Profile der mittleren Windgeschwindigkeit und des turbulenten vertikalen Diffusionskoeffizienten Potenzgesetzen gehorchen. Die Lösung führt für die vertikale Spurenstoffverteilung auf der Mittellinie der sich ausbreitenden Spurenstoffwolke zu einer nicht gaussförmigen Verteilung. Das analytische Modell wird mit Daten von neun Versuchen verglichen, die in Inshas, Kairo, in Ägypten durchgeführt wurden. Das Modell zeigt eine gute Übereinstimmung mit den gemessenen Daten.
