Abstract:

Global spectral dynamics is split into local 'bits' such that summing up those falling in a given region defines the region's dynamics. While theory was presented for normal mode analysis of 1-dimensional Burgers/Korteweg-DeVries equation in Part I ('PI', SCHMIDT et al., 2005), the method is applied here to 2-dimensional shallow water spherical harmonics dynamics of lower troposphere Asian monsoon region. We do find physically significant regional modes and present some in monthly succession.

Globale spektrale Dynamik wird in lokale Informationsteile aufgespalten, die sich in glockenförmigen Fenstern zeigen. Aufsummiert über die Teile, die in eine gegebene Region fallen, wird die regionale Dynamik erhalten. Die Theorie dazu wurde am Beispiel einer Eigenanalyse für eine eindimensionale Burgers-/Korteweg-DeVries-Gleichung in Teil I (SCHMIDT et al., 2005) dargestellt. Hier wird das Verfahren auf 2-dimensionale bezüglich Kugelflächenfunktionen definierte Flachwasser-Dynamik angewendet. Definitionsbereich ist die untere Troposphäre der asiatischen Monsunregion. Wir finden physikalisch signifikante regionale Eigenvektoren und zeigen einige in monatlicher Aufeinanderfolge.
