Inertial motion of particles on the earth and also on a sphere is discussed in the light of angular momentum conservation. While it is customary in work on inertial motion to invoke the conservation equation for the axial component it is shown here that consideration of the equatorial components yields a new conservation law which predicts an increase of the magnitude of the equatorial components with increasing latitude during the particle's motion. In particular, the criterion for the existence of hemispheric orbits follows immediately from this relation.

Die Trägheitsbewegung auf der Erde und auf einer Kugel wird im Licht der Erhaltung des Drehimpulses diskutiert. Wiewohl es üblich ist, die Erhaltung der polaren Komponente in der Theorie der Trägheitsbewegung zu berücksichtigen, wird hier gezeigt, daß der Einbezug der äquatorialen Komponenten zu einem neuen Erhaltungssatz führt, der besagt, daß der Betrag der äquatorialen Komponente zunimmt, wenn sich ein Teilchen nach Norden bewegt. Das Kriterium für die Entstehung hemisphärischer Bahnen folgt sofort aus diesem Satz.
