The scientific progress in simulating transport and chemical transformations of tracers in the atmospheric boundary layer is summarised, starting from the 1980s. An overview on the current status of boundary layer resolving transport models and their use in practice is given. Selected model results are presented in comparison to measured data. Some examples for the uncertainty of model results are discussed. Perspectives on future developments of transport models for the atmospheric boundary layer are given.

Der wissenschaftliche Fortschritt, wie er sich seit 1980 in der Simulation des Transports und der chemischen Umsetzung von Luftbeimengungen in der atmosphärischen Grenzschicht ergeben hat, wird zusammengefasst. Über den gegenwärtigen Stand der Modellierung von Stofftransporten in der atmosphärischen Grenzschicht wird ein Überblick gegeben, und die Nutzung der Modelle in der Praxis wird vorgestellt. Ausgewählte Modellergebnisse werden mit Messwerten verglichen. Beispiele für Unsicherheiten von Modellergebnissen werden diskutiert. Perspektiven für die weitere Entwicklung von Transportmodellen für die atmosphärische Grenzschicht werden aufgezeigt.
