Abstract:

Nonhydrostatic mesoscale models contribute important aspects for understanding phenomena in the atmospheric boundary layer. Especially in Germany, a long term experience in developing and applying this new tool exists, which is documented by the availability of numerous highly sophisticated models of this type. Some numerical results are presented which show the wide variety of applications and the efficiency of numerical mesoscale models.

Nichthydrostatische Mesoskalenmodelle liefern wichtige Beiträge zum Verständnis atmosphärischer Grenzschichtphänomene. Gerade in Deutschland verfügt man über eine langjährige Erfahrung in der Entwicklung und der Anwendung dieses Hilfsmittels, was durch die Verfügbarkeit einer großen Anzahl hochentwickelter Modelle dieses Typs dokumentiert wird. Aus der Fülle von numerischen Simulationsergebnissen werden einige Beispiele präsentiert, die das breite Spektrum von Anwendungsmöglichkeiten und die Leistungsfähigkeit der Mesoskalenmodelle nachweist.
