Simulation of concentration statistics with an Eulerian model – relevance of several factors to quality of results

There is a wide variety of methods for computing area-wide concentration statistics from a number of threedimensional dispersion simulations and several parameters which affect the quality of results. Apart from the quality of the input data (emission inventory, meteorological forcing, etc.) there are additional factors e.g. the model domain size, the grid resolution, the number of simulations and the numerical methods. In order to find out the sensitivity of results to some of these items, NO X concentration statistics for the Cologne area are simulated with an EULERIAN model using several configurations. The results show, that most factors have only minor relevance to the quality of results. In combination with an emission inventory, which is dominated by surface emissions, even for configurations with relative little expense a satisfactory agreement with observations was found for annual mean concentrations and 98th percentile values.

Es gibt eine Vielfalt von Methoden zur Berechnung flächendeckender Immissionsstatistiken aus einer Anzahl von dreidimensionalen Ausbreitungsrechnungen und einige Parameter, die sich auf die Ergebnisqualität auswirken. Abgesehen von der Qualität der Eingangsdaten (Emissionskataster, meteorologischer Antrieb, usw.) gibt es noch weitere Faktoren, wie die Größe des Rechengebietes, die Gitterauflösung, die Anzahl von Simulationen und die numerischen Verfahren. Um die Sensitivität der Ergebnisse bezüglich einiger dieser Punkte zu bestimmen, werden NO X -Immissionsstatistiken für den Kölner Raum für verschiedene Konfigurationen mit einem EULERmodell berechnet. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die meisten Faktoren von geringer Bedeutung für die Ergebnisqualität sind. In Verbindung mit einem Emissionskataster, das von bodennahen Quellen dominiert wird, ist auch bei relativ geringem Aufwand eine befriedigende Übereinstimmung mit gemessenen Jahresmittelwerten und 98-Perzentilwerten festzustellen.
