The well known influence of C.L. Willdenow on Alexander von Humboldt was causal for the fact that there is a substantial set of the collections of Humboldt & Bonpland in the Willdenow Herbarium in Berlin (B-W). Willdenow's early death led to the publication of his mostly provisional diagnoses by Roemer & Schultes. The letters of J.A. Schultes confirm that the elder Schlechtendal copied the text from the herbarium of Willdenow and sent it to Roemer.
