Abstract:

During the taxonomic investigations on the freshwater filamentous green algae of the West Bengal, algae belonging to the order Chaetophorales were recorded. In the present communication 11 members are described and illustrated. They belong to the following four genera Draparnaldia Bory, Epibolium Printz, Leptosiropsis Jao, and Stigeoclonium Kützing. Of these, two taxa Stigeoclonium amoenum Kützing var. novizelandicum Nordstedt and Stigeoclonium longipilum Kützing emend. Islam var. cylindricum Islam, are recorded for the first time from India. Beside these, two additional taxa (Draparnaldia iyengarii Tiwari, Pandey et Pandey and Epibolium polyspermum Düringer) are additions to the West Bengal algal flora. It is interesting to note that amongst the recorded taxa Draparnaldia iyengarii Tiwari et al. and Stigeoclonium longipilum Kützing emend. Islam var. cylindricum Islam are reported for the first time since their original publications.
