Abstract:

The thermal decompositions of [MoO3(2,2'-bipy)], [Mo2O6(2,2'-bipy)], and [Mo3O9(2,2'-bipy)2] have been studied by Raman spectroscopy. Upon heating, [MoO3(2,2'-bipy)] loses 2,2'-bipyridine and converts to MoO3 through a stable intermediate, [Mo2O6(2,2'-bipy)], whereas [Mo3O9(2,2'-bipy)2] loses 2,2'-bipyridine and transforms to MoO3directly. Vibrational assignments for [MoO3(2,2'-bipy)], [Mo2O6(2,2'-bipy)], and [Mo3O9(2,2'-bipy)2] are proposed.
