Abstract:

This report describes the design and performance of an f/1.9, 0.1-m-focal-length echelie spectrograph custom-designed for Raman spectroscopy using charge-coupled device (CCD) detection. This device simultaneously acquires data over a range of nearly 5000 cm−1 at 2 cm−1 resolution (resolution limited by detector granularity). Twenty-five of these spectra, corresponding to different locations on the entrance slit, are simultaneously collected in a single CCD image. With the use of 200 mW of laser power and 1 second of data acquisition time, individual cyclohexane spectra from the set of 25 had signal-to-noise ratios of 85 in the CH-stretching region.
