A Method for Background Reduction in IR Spectroscopy

Abstract:

The accuracy in quantitative and qualitative analysis of IR spectra of coals by the transmission method has been limited. This is because the IR transmission spectra of coals possess large background interferences. In this note, we report a method for reducing background, thus allowing an increase in the precision of quantitative analysis by the IR transmission method. In our observation, an IR scattering filter proved to reduce the background remarkably.
