Abstract:

A general derivation of the luminescence flux reaching the detector in molecular luminescence spectrometry is given. The expression accounts for the pre-filter effect, the primary absorption effect, the re-absorption of fluorescence effect, and the post-filter effect. Also more than one absorbing species of primary excitation radiation and of fluorescence radiation is considered. The final expression may be used for explaining the shapes of luminescence analytical calibration curves in fluorimetry and phosphorimetry as well as to explain the mechanism of response of a positive-negative fluorescence detector.
