Abstract:

An empirical approach to the selection of lightpipes to achieve the best sensitivity for a particular GC column is presented. It is found that for a particular volume lightpipe the ratio of the length to the diameter determines the efficiency of the lightpipe. An empirical relationship that allows calculation of the most efficient lightpipe dimension is proposed.
