An existing stock of large diameter hollow cathode lamps should not preclude the purchase of a spectrophotometer that requires small diameter lamps. Moreover, a duplicate set of lamps should not be purchased solely for the operation of a single instrument. This basic economic quandary can be resolved inexpensively by fitting the spectrophotometer with lamp holders and hardware that will accommodate the large lamps.
