Abstract:

Recently, this laboratory was faced with the problem of analyzing steel and aluminum rivets using a Jarrell-Ash Direct Reading Spectrometer. The small size of these rivets prevented the direct use of the electrode holders in the arc stand. It would be necessary to melt the rivets into a briquette large enough to fit in the stand. Melting these rivets was time consuming, and the number of rivets necessary to make a sufficiently large briquette made it expensive.
