X-Ray Fluorescence Analysis of Light Elements, Aluminum-Chromium
Abstract:The best conditions obtainable from available equipment for x-ray fluorescence analysis of the elements aluminum through chromium are presented. Approximate limits of detection of aluminum, silicon, and titanium in iron alloys are given. A chromium target tube was compared with a tungsten tube and was found to give a several-fold improvement over the tungsten tube in the analysis of the elements aluminum through titanium. A lithium fluoride analyzing crystal has been shown to be superior to an ethylenediamine ditartrate crystal for the elements from chromium to potassium, the lightest element that may be analyzed with a LiF crystal.
