Abstract:

In evaluating silicone resins to be used as coatings for the protection of electronic components, it was of considerable interest to compare resin composition with behavior as a coating. Silicone resins undergo considerable modification in properties when different groups are substituted on the siloxane chain. In particular, methyl, ethyl, and phenyl groups have been used and it was the purpose of this study to estimate the relative amounts of these groups in commercial resins. It was hoped that this information could be correlated with coating behavior and thereby prove valuable in specifying resins with particular properties of interest in the electronic component field.
