Flame spectrophotometry is firmly established as an accurate, rapid, convenient and versatile method of analysis. More than 50 elements may be determined, and of these at least 30 have detectabilities of 1 ppm or less. Accuracy is commonly better than ±1%. Ease and speed of manipulation are outstanding, being based on direct aspiration of liquid samples into a flame, and on direct and instantaneous photometric reading of intensity. Flame photometric analysis ideally complements spectrographic analysis and, finally, it is relatively inexpensive.
